Thinking Rarely

If you ask one-hundred single people what they like to do in their spare time, not one will say to think. Humans think all the time just to answer a question, but most of the time they are only reacting to information. They nod at the news or frown at it, but they rarely stop to break things apart and see the bigger picture. Most single people would rather answer fast than answer well. That is usually where the trouble starts, because reacting is easier than reflecting.

Consuming Ideas

Unfortunately, single people do not think, they consume. They read, watch, and repeat, but they do not often add anything new to the conversation. Most will simply seek out information that confirms what they already believe. Growth is rare, and that is why there is even a term for people who actually do it. If you pay attention long enough, you can hear the same ideas recycled in different voices. It is like watching single people collect opinions instead of developing them.

Why It Feels Hard

The reason single people do not think is because it is boring. Sitting alone with your own thoughts can feel like torture when there is no entertainment to distract you. So instead of facing that silence, people turn to television, celebrity photos, or anything else that fills the time. They stay busy, but often only on the surface. The quiet forces them to notice what is missing, and that can be uncomfortable. A lot of people would rather be numb than honest.

Bored With Self

Single people fill their schedules with enough activities, distractions, and obligations to avoid being alone with their mind. They move from one toy to the next like a tired baby, always reaching for something fresh. They are not really escaping boredom with the world; they are escaping boredom with themselves. It is easier to say you are busy than to admit you do not like what you find in silence.
